School Councils UK welcome PSHE announcement by Greg Sanderson
School Councils UK welcomes the Government’s move to make PSHE education a statutory subject. We feel that there is a strong link between PSHE education and school councils, and it is encouraging to see the Government’s strong commitment to the wellbeing of young people.
High quality PSHE teaching for all, supported by effective school councils, will help more young people to develop the skills and knowledge needed to build positive relationships, make informed choices based on good quality information, and communicate and negotiate effectively.
Jess Gold, Chief Executive of School Councils UK, said ‘school councils are a great way of helping young people’s personal development, and complement their learning in PSHE lessons. PSHE education aims to give young people the opportunity to make positive contributions to their schools and communities, and school councils are one of the best ways to help them do that’ .
We are pleased that this subject will be given a statutory footing, and look forward to taking part in Sir Alasdair MacDonald’s review.
