What was going on

No picture currently available Has your school council got a newsletter yet? As Our Lady and St John School, in Blackburn, will tell you it’s a great way to make sure the whole school knows what you are up to on the school council and get other school news out to the pupils.

What we did

The OLSJ Chronicle has been running at Our Lady and St John School since last September and comes out every two weeks. A simple double sided sheet of A4 paper is enough space to squeeze in all the news that is going on in the school. Including new staff, competitions, any projects the school council are working on, quizzes, challenges, an amazing facts section and book reviews. The first issue of 2006 even came with a free school council calendar.

Meetings happen every Wednesday where the school council and budding journalists plan the articles and decide on the next issue’s content. The school council charge 10p per copy to cover their costs and so far feedback from the pupils has been really positive

What changed

School council link teacher Andrew Larkin says, “Pupils are now aware of successes in school, they like the puzzles and particularly welcome the free gifts. In the future we hope to increase the readership and include business sponsorship so that the revenue gained can be used to support other school council initiatives.”
