I'm a Scientist...

If you’re looking for events to engage your Maths, D&T and Science students in science and engineering then have a look at these free online projects!

The Decipher my data Flu! project looks at whether schools can provide a valid early marker of influenza activity in the wider community, through comparing school illness absence data with national figures. Students work with scientists from UCL and do real science using real data in the classroom.

I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here! and I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here! both get secondary school students talking with scientists and engineers online, to help teach How Science Works and show students the context of their studies. There’s more information about each project below, so have a read and apply by following the links. If you’ve got any questions contact Rosie on 01225 869413 or rosie@gallomanor.com – she’s happy to help.

Decipher my data

decipher my data logoWhat? A series of projects (kicking off with the Flu! project) that gets scientists working with students on real research to produce better results than either could have achieved on their own.
Why? Students benefit from performing real science using real data in the classroom.
When? Throughout the school year. Flu! is running until March 2012.
How? Teachers from English and Welsh schools can sign up to take part until Christmas, although the sooner the better in case a national flu outbreak is early this year.

I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here

I'm a scientist logoWhat? Free online X-factor style competition where students talk to scientists online for 2 weeks and vote for their favourite scientist, in a nail-biting science show down.
Why? Helps teach How Science Works.
When? 12th-23rd March 2012, June 2012.

How? Apply at the teacher registration page by Monday 16th January

I'm an Engineer, Get me out of here

Why? Because seeing the context of their studies helps inspire and engage students.
When? 12th-23rd March 2012.
