'Young Equals' day of action on age discrimination: Today! by Mark Johnston
'Young Equals' is a group of charities and children and young people who are campaigning to stop age discrimination. A new law is being planned that will bring together all of the laws about equality. It will give protection to people who are left out of equality laws at the moment. The Government says that only adults should be protected from age discrimination. Young Equals disagree! What do you think?
On Thursday August 28th, Children's Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) held a day of action to gather evidence of age discrimination from all over Britain.
No matter how old you are, CRAE wanted you to sign up to show you support Young Equals.
What you can still do:
- Keep a diary of the unfair treatment you experience or witness that day because of your age
- Take photographs or videos of the unfair treatment you experience or witness that day because of your age
- Take photographs of signs that stop children and young people using services or public spaces
- Send CRAE your photograph and a short statement that describes unfair treatment you received recently (include your contact details)
- Send your local Member of Parliament (MP) evidence of age discrimination
- Ask for a meeting with your MP. Download CRAE's example letter from the CRAE website.
- Write a letter about CRAE's campaign to your local newspaper
- Set up a Young Equals local campaign group.
You can act on your own, or why not get together a group of
friends to take action!
